Growing Up

I've been thinking about this for the last week or so, but I haven't had time to post it before now. It's really not just to make up for posting that embarrassing story about Ethan! :)

I don't know if all children are this way, but it seems like things will just kind of click with Ethan all of a sudden. Within the last couple of weeks, it seems like he's just all of a sudden becoming so considerate. For example, the other day he knew we were getting ready to go shopping. He asked if he could go play outside while I got Alex ready, and I told him yes. When we were ready, I called for Yellow to come in. By the time I got out to the porch, Ethan had come in from the back yard, opened the garage door for me, opened the door that I put Alex in, and climbed into his seat - all without being told. He seems to be looking for ways to be helpful without being asked. It makes me feel like he's turning into a young man rather than a little boy.

I know that's a good thing, and I'm happy to see it. It's another reminder, though, of how fast time goes; how fast my boys will be grown up and men instead of boys. So part of me is glad that he's still little boy enough that he needs a stuffed animal to go to sleep.

A mama needs to adjust to these things slowly. At least this mama does!

It's very sweet that he's helping you - could it be penance for the shower incident? I'm just kidding - Ethan is much more sensitive and thoughtful than most kids. I don't want to adjust to growing kids, either. I want them to stay little.

That's an awesome story about Ethan. I'm sure that did your Mommy heart a world of good!
